KE, Shell launch vehicle charging station

KARACHI: K-Electric has launched a first of its kind commercially available rapid electric vehicle charging station in Karachi with a capacity of 50kWh in collaboration with Shell Pakistan Limited (SPL).

The Shell pump at Rashid Minhas Road will take 45-60 minutes to charge a car at any given time, says a press release.

K-Electric’s chief strategy officer Naz Khan said currently, 46pc of Pakistan’s energy emissions come from burning fossil fuels. Of that, half is contributed by the transport sector. Thus, initiatives like this are vital to our nation’s long-term energy and environmental sustainability.

KE is currently generating 250MW of Karachi’s energy from renewable sources, with plans to add 350MW more sources of renewable energy in the near future, she said.

Speaking at the inauguration, Taha Magrabi, general manager retail, SPL said the initiative is a step towards cleaner energy solutions and in line with the government’s strategy to promote electric vehicles in Pakistan.
