Doctors protest holding of licensing exam
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Young doctors staged protest at the District Headquarters and Teaching Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan, on Friday against the National Licensing Examination (NLE) being conducted by the Pakistan Medical Commission.
The protesters carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the PMC.
“We have not registered for this examination and will continue our protest till the decision is reversed,” said a protester.
The young doctors deplored that despite their refusal to register for the examination, the PMC went ahead with it. They said the commission was imposing decisions on young doctors.
They said despite the protests of the opposition parties in parliament, the government had approved the PMC’s policy leading to its implementation.
The protesting doctors added that they had no objection to the new exam system, which the government claims had been developed on the pattern of the United States’, but before its implementation, the provision of the facilities available in the US should be ensured in Pakistan.
Senior doctors also participated in the protest.
