Four arrested for breaking into Umar Akmal’s house

LAHORE: The Defence police on Saturday arrested four persons for breaking into the residence of Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal.

The cricketer had called 15 and informed police that the armed men had entered his house and tortured him and his family. He further alleged that the intruders were also drunk. Police arrested the men and registered a case against them. One of the suspects nominated in the case was identified as Sheikh Ali.

A police official said the suspects had arrived in a car at the Phase V residence of Mr Akmal and they told police that they were fans of the cricketer and wanted to take a selfie with him. During the interrogation, they denied having any other bad intention as well as the allegations of making entry into the premises of Mr Akmal’s property. They claimed that the incident had occurred outside the house of Akmal when they stopped him to take a selfie and the cricketer got annoyed.

The police official said the car of the suspects had been seized and investigation was underway. He added that police were trying to get the CCTV footage to confirm the allegations levelled by Umar Akmal.
