Abdul Dyer passes away

KARACHI: Abdul Rehman Dyer, who died of heart failure on Tuesday, was 84. A right handed, hard-hitting batsman, Dyer toured England with Pakistan Eaglets in 1955. He played 18 first-class matches scoring 428 runs at 21.40.

His first class debut was for Bahawalpur against the MCC match in 1956 while his second match was against Sindh in 1956-57 in which Mushtaq Mohammad and I made our First Class debuts. Dyer scored his highest of 77 not out in that match.

Dyer was considered as the benefactor of Pakistan cricket because as an industrialist owner of Dyer Textile Mills in Karachi as well as the owner of Modern Studios, he helped all the cricketers of his time during the 1950s to make a living.
