FBR to register housing societies and jewellers

FAISALABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue will register housing societies and jewellers, says FBR’s Faisalabad Chief Commissioner Mahmood Hussain.

Addressing a press conference along with additional commissioner (headquarters) Asif Rafiq, deputy commissioner Inam Qadir and others on Wednesday, he said the FBR was striving to increase the tax growth and at national level it had achieved its target.

He said the bureau was also facilitating the filers and did not stop the ‘legitimate’ refund of anyone only to ensure business activities.

He said help desks had been set up at all offices and at regional level and “we have registered 25 per cent growth”.

“The textile sector in Faisalabad region is improving,” he said adding the government had provided special concession to the export industry in the tariff rate. However, he said some of the elements had misused the concession.

A couple of weeks ago, the FBR officials had registered three cases against the powerloom factory owners who consumed subsidised electricity but did not file that return.

He said: “The registration of housing societies and jewellers is our mission now and the non-filers and tax evaders will face the music.”

He said the retail sector would be brought into the tax net.
