Officers’ strike enters second day

PESHAWAR: The officers of the provincial government’s attached departments continued protesting for the second day on Wednesday to seek special allowance.

On Tuesday, the police used batons and water canon to stop the officers from marching towards the secretariat, and held 16 protesters for hours.

The officers marched from the Nishtar Hall to the Peshawar Press Club, where they staged a protest, according to a statement.

The protesting officers condemned the pay disparity between them and other cadres and said the strike would continue till the special allowance was not given to them. They vowed to extend the protest across the province.

Separately, All Pakistan Prosecution Welfare Association announced a two-day strike from July 14 in support of the attached departments’ officers; and also to press the government for giving them 20 per cent disparity reduction allowance along with the executive allowance, according to a statement.
