24 diagnosed with dengue in Khyber

KHYBER: Twenty-four people were diagnosed with dengue virus in Landi Kotal tehsil of Khyber after health officials conducted tests on more than 60 residents of Matta Khel locality on Saturday.

Additional district health officer Dr Ayub Afridi told mediapersons at the District Headquarters Hospital in Landi Kotal that dengue-related tests were conducted on 64 residents of Matta Khel locality after complaints about symptoms of dengue fever were received from local residents.

He said fumigation of the affected locality was immediately conducted, while health teams were also sent to the area to educate the residents about preventive measures.

Dr Afridi said prompt medication was provided to all the affected persons while more tests would be conducted on other residents.

Medical superintendent Dr Niaz Afridi said those infected with dengue virus were kept at a separate ward.

Meanwhile, minority MPA Wilson Wazir also visited the affected area and met with residents and health staff. He advised the health staff to provide prompt medical assistance to the affected persons, and urged the residents to adopt preventive measures against dengue virus.
