Gas leak kills couple in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: A couple was suffocated due to leakage of gas from a generator while they were asleep in a room here on Saturday night.

The police said Saeedullah of Mian Kallay along with his wife had come to attend the wedding of his in-law in Shabqaddar, where the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, body of a man was found hanging from a tree in Sarwako area.

The police registered report on the complaint of Sher Ali, brother of the deceased, Amjad Ali. He told the police that Amjad was missing from home.

Separately, a community dialogue was organised here on Sunday in connection with the Independence Day to help promote tolerance and interfaith harmony in society.

The event was jointly organised by Blue Veins, a women’s health advocacy programme; the social welfare department and Aawaz-II, a DFID-funded initiative aimed at betterment of local communities.

The event was attended by additional deputy commissioner for human rights, Charsadda, Mohammad Ali, district officer, social welfare department, Shoaib Khan, Pastor Prem Samuel of Bibly Church Charsadda, Aawaz-II focal person Zahoor Ahmad Zarifkhel, minority community members and others.

The session provided an opportunity to the communities and local decision makers to understand the problems facing the religious minorities in Charsadda. It was also meant to enhance understanding of the impact of discrimination on the grounds of religion, improve tolerance and promote interfaith harmony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Ali said that minorities in Pakistan enjoyed equal rights. He said that office of the additional deputy commissioner for human rights fully supported and protected the minorities’ rights enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan.

Shoaib Khan appreciated the Aawaz-II initiative for interfaith harmony and social inclusion.
