Covid-19 claims 16 more lives in two days

ISLAMABAD: As many as 16 patients succumbed to coronavirus in Islamabad and Rawalpindi districts on Thursday and Friday.

Officials of the capital administration said the two days tally of patients was 777 with five losing their battle against the virus in Islamabad.

They said two deaths were reported on Thursday in the age groups of 50-59 and 80-89. Both were men and residents of G-15 and F-13, while three casualties were reported on Friday in the age groups of 50-59, 60-69 and 70-79. One of the deceased was a resident of Alipur while the addresses of the other two were not known.

On Thursday, 4,850 tests were conducted and the virus was detected in 482 people. The positivity rate was recorded at 9.93pc.

During the last 24 hours, tests of 4,363 people were conducted out of whom 295 were found infected with a 6.76pc positivity ratio, the officials said.

Moreover, the allocation of beds in hospitals was further increased to 739 from 689, adding that 391 beds were in use with the occupancy ratio standing at 52.9pc.

They said 51 patients were on ventilators, adding that there were 110 ventilators allocated for Covid-19 patients in the capital. According to data, the occupancy rate of ventilators was 46.36pc.

Rawalpindi

As many as 11 patients died in Rawalpindi in the last two days while 291 more tested positive.

The positivity ratio was recorded at 6.85pc on August 19 and 6.68pc on August 20.

As many as seven people died on Thursday and four on Friday. Moreover, 184 people contracted the virus on Thursday and 107 on Friday.

Those who died on Friday were Shamim Bibi, 38, a resident of Murree; Mohammad Waseem, 50, of Sadiqabad, Ikram Baloch, 20, a resident of Gujar Khan and Arshad Mehmood, 60, of Wah Cantonment. They were admitted to different hospitals.

There are 1,929 active patients in the district - 212 in hospitals and 1,717 home isolated.

On Friday, most of the patients were brought to hospitals from the garrison city, with 24 arriving from cantonment areas, 13 from Potohar Town and 17 from Rawal Town. Besides, 19 patients came from Taxila, 13 from Kahuta, seven each from Gujar Khan and Murree and one patient from Kallar Syedan. Four patients also arrived from Islamabad and one each from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Jhelum and Abbottabad.

Officials said 47 patients were admitted to Holy Family Hospital, 31 were under treatment in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 84 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, three in District Headquarters Hospital, 40 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, two patients in Hearts International Hospital, four in Bilal Hospital and one patient in Begum Akhtar Rukhsana Hospital.

There are nine patients on ventilators, 130 on oxygen and 73 are stable.
