RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah on Tuesday said the division surpassed the vaccinated target set by the government and achieved a milestone by vaccinating 60pc of the population.

“Fifty to fifty-five per cent of the target set by the government for this division with a population of 5912,000 was achieved. It is a big achievement and the credit surely goes to the administration and health professionals who have encouraged people through awareness sessions and enforcement,” he said.

He added that the first priority of the administration was to provide a healthy environment to the people.

“Since the corona pandemic is now a danger sign for all and the government is also administering the vaccine free of charge, so we can’t allow people to avoid the vaccine due to false propaganda and become a threat not only to themselves but to others as well,” he said.

He said it was a good sign that the target set for vaccination in Rawalpindi division had been crossed for which the efforts of the divisional administration and the health department are commendable.

Meanwhile, two patients died of Covid-19 in the Rawalpindi district and 198 people tested positive on Tuesday. Moreover, 209 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery. The positivity ratio in the district remained 12.99oc.

Mohammad Bashir, 65, a resident of Dhoke Gangal Rajgan, was brought to Holy Family Hospital on August 15 where he died.

Naznain Adnan, 42, a resident of Shah Pyara Allahabad, was admitted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences on August 23 where she also died.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 1762 active patients. As many as 213 patients are in the hospitals and 1,564 are home isolated.

Most of the patients were brought from the garrison city as 41 patients arrived from cantonment areas, 51 from Potohar Town and 25 from Rawal Town. Besides, 21 patients arrived from Taxila, 20 from Kallar Syedan, 10 Gujar Khan, five from Kahuta, six from Murree and one patient came from Kotli Sattian.

As many as 16 patients also arrived from Islamabad, two each from Attock and Chakwal, three from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and one each from Abbottabad, Gujrat, Jhang, Khushab, KP and Mandi Bahauddin.

Officials said 45 patients were admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 31 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 91 patients in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, four in District Headquarters Hospital, 38 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, two in Hearts International Hospital, one patient each in Bilal Hospital and Begum Akhtar Rukhsana Hospital.

There are nine patients on ventilators in Rawalpindi, 120 on oxygen and 84 are stable.

Islamabad

A slight increase was seen in the number of cases in the federal capital but the positivity rate declined.

Officials said 381 new cases were reported in the capital compared to 360 on Monday.

These cases were reported after carrying out 5,436 tests in the last 24 hours with the positivity rate of seven per cent against 8.28pc the other day.

The officials said the infected people included 194 females and 187 males. adding 82 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39 years, 65 in 20-29, 55 in 10-19, 51 in 40-49, 47 in 0-9, 36 in 50-59, 30 in 60-69, 13 in 70-79 and two in 80 and above.

There are 5,421 active cases in the capital. So far, 96,771 residents of the capital have contracted the virus and 90,495 recovered.
