Three of family die in Hangu roof collapse

KOHAT: A prayer leader, his wife and a son died and four children sustained injuries when roof of their house collapsed in Regi Darsamand area of Hangu district in the wee hours on Wednesday.

The bodies were pulled out by the local volunteers and Rescue 1122 officials and shifted to the Combine Military Hospital, Thall.

A volunteer, Mohammad Asad of the remote Darsamand area, who took part in the rescue effort, told Dawn on phone that the prayer leader of a mosque in Angor Chinna, Said Raheem, 45, his wife Inshad Bibi, 35, and 13-year-old son Asadullah died in the roof collapse.

The injured included Aesha Bibi, 10, Palwasha Bibi, 6, Hameedullah, 8, and Sameemullah, 3.

The deceased were laid to rest in their ancestral graveyard in Parachinar.

The volunteer said the family was living in a rented dilapidated double-storey house. He added the wooden beams had been eaten away by termites and weakened by recent rains.

Separately, the police arrested a proclaimed offender carrying Rs1.5 million head money in a targeted operation on Wednesday.

The Bilitang police led by DSP Saddar Bashir Dad and SHO Irfan Khan made the raid on a den, and held the outlaw.

Arshad alias Laparo was wanted in kidnapping for ransom, terrorism, murder, attempted murder, possession of explosives and weapons cases.

District police officer Sohail Khalid said special operations had been launched against the criminals carrying head money.
