Two injured in PU student groups clash
LAHORE: Two students suffered injuries when two groups clashed on the Punjab University New Campus on Thursday.
Progressive Students Collective (PSC) was organising a study circle when Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) activists attacked them with sticks and rods. Two of the students - Ali Aftab and Haris - suffered minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the university security reached the spot and dispersed the students.
PSC activist Aftab told Dawn that they were organising a study circle titled ‘The Taliban government impact on Pakistan’ when the IJT activists attacked them.
He said the security administration did not respond and allowed the baton-wielding IJT activists to roam freely in the campus. “Had the security guards responded the situation could have been averted,” he said.
He said they had lodged complaints with the university and police to take action against the attackers.
An IJT spokesperson told the media that they did not have any connection with both student groups that clashed on the campus.
However, a PU spokesperson said the security guards had responded timely and averted any untoward situation.
He said the administration would take action against the suspects involved in disturbing the peaceful environment of the campus.
