Two constables killed by robbers

LAHORE: Unidentified robbers allegedly shot dead two police constables in Manga Mandi area here on Tuesday.

Identified as Adil Hussain and Abad Ali, the constables died instantly.

Initial police inquiries suggested that a team of five officials stopped two bikers for identification on Manga-Raiwind Road early in the morning but they sped away.

The constables alerted the police on 15.

Meanwhile, Adil and Abad chased the suspects who fired shots. Both the policemen succumbed to the critical chest and head wounds.

Later in the day, IGP Inam Ghani, Capital City Police Officer Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, Punjab Operations DIG Suhail Chaudhry and others offered funeral prayers for the constables at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines.

The police declared the constables “martyred” and announced incentives as per rules.

The bodies of the constables were departed for burial to their native areas. The Manga Mandi police registered a case against the unidentified killers.

Addressing on the occasion, Inam Ghani expressed his deep sense of grief and sorrow over the loss of lives of police personnel and said that more than 1,500 Jawans have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty so far.
