BVH dress code order withdrawn

BAHAWALPUR: The Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) medical superintendent on Friday withdrew the notification issued by his office a day earlier, announcing enforcement of dress code for the facility’s doctors.

BVH MS Prof Dr Younus Warraich had announced to enforce a dress code, particularly for the women medical officers (WMOs), on the BVH premises on Thursday, and in this respect had issued a notification.

In a letter (a copy available with Dawn) addressed to the Punjab special healthcare and medical education secretary, the MS said he had issued a notification for the dress code rules to be observed on the BVH premises, which “is hereby withdrawn/cancelled”.

The MS has also sent the copies of the letter to the special secretary, special healthcare and medical education, Lahore, Bahawalpur commissioner, deputy commissioner, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College (QAMC),Bahawalpur, principal and heads of the departments.

When contacted, the MS did not elaborate the reasons behind the withdrawal of the dress code order.

However, Dawn has learnt the MS withdrew the order on the direction of some senior officials in the Punjab government.

As per sources, following the dress code order, the MS was contacted by some high-ups in the government and local administration in this respect.

However, the MS did not give details of these contacts, just saying he had withdrawn the order and that’s all.

According to some MOs and WMOs, they felt relaxed after the withdrawal of the dress code order, terming it coercive.
