No relief from robberies, street crime in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI: As the crime wave continues unabated, a number of people were robbed of cash in various parts of the garrison city. Others lost their valuables to thieves, car lifters and burglars.
According to police statistics released on Sunday, 17 people were deprived of their motorcycles, three others of their cars. Others lost cash, gold jewellery, mobile phones.
Police registered cases on Saturday and launched investigations.
The police statistics showed that Babar Sultan was robbed of Rs20,000 and a mobile phone by two robbers in Ratta Amral, Ghulam Shabir was robbed of cash by two motorcycle riders in the New Town police area and Omer Hussain Mian was deprived of his motorcycle and cash by four robbers in Taxila.
Bilal Khan, a resident of Peshawar Road, lodged a first information report (FIR) with Racecourse police saying that he was at his workplace when he received a phone call from his sister, who informed him that two women entered her house, held her at gunpoint and escaped with Rs180,000 and gold jewellery worth Rs202,600.
Mohammad Aziz, a shopkeeper, was robbed of Rs130,000 by two robbers, Mohsin Ali, resident of Kahuta, lost Rs50,000 and gold jewellery when thieves broke into his house in the absence of his family.
Ameer Afzal lodged a similar complaint with Chauntra police that burglars broke into his house in the absence of his family and escaped with 15 tola jewellery, Rs270,000 cash and a motorcycle.
Shakeel Shahzad, resident of Afshan Colony, complained to the police that his daughter was held up at gunpoint by two robbers in the street and was forced to give up cash and a mobile phone worth Rs50,000.
Mohammad Shahzad complained to Civil Lines police that he along with other workers was sleeping in a godown when he was held up at gunpoint by four persons who snatched cash, four mobile phones, batteries and other valuables.
Arslan Asif complained to the Rawat police that he was on his way home on a motorcycle when he was he robbed of Rs70,000 by two robbers. Nasir Mehmood, resident of Kahuta, lost gold jewellery and other valuables worth Rs300,000 when some burglars broke into his house in his absence.
Mohammad Sheraz’s car was stolen from New Town area, Rizwan Khan’s car from Taxila while Tariq Mahmood’s car was stolen from Murree.
According to police figures, 10 people were deprived of their motorcycles by vehicle lifters on Friday while three motorcycles were stolen on Saturday.
Abdul Rahman, Mohammad Bilal, Maqsoodur Rahman, Shahwaiz, Mohsen Anis, Mohammad Ali, Yasir Rehman, Amir, Babar Ali, Aamir Abbas, Sanaul Haq, Mohammad Ali, Umair Rafaqat, Hashem Iftikhar and Khaista Gul were among those who lost their motorcycles.
