DADU, Nov 7: The Sindh National Front has threatened to boycott Urdu language if the 1972 Sindhi Language Act is amended. The SNF’s central committee at a meeting held at a hotel here on Monday said the Sindh government would be responsible for consequences if the act was amended.

Eighty members of the central committee attended the meeting, presided over by party chairman Mumtaz Ali Bhutto.

The meeting adopted nine resolutions.

It opposed construction of dams and said that the recent earthquake had proved that proposed sites for dams were not safe.

The meeting regretted that no decision had been taken about the National Finance Comm-ission award for four years. It claimed that performance of the National Finance Commission was zero and the commission should be disbanded because, it alleged, the provinces and federation were using expenditures illegally.

It demanded that the provinces should be empowered to look after their resources and their expenditures to run their affairs.

The meeting alleged that some anti-Sindh elements were implementing programmes to occupy resources and sovereignty of the province.

It urged Sindhis to unite on the platform of the SNF for their rights.

In another resolution, the Sindh National Front demanded that the government should follow the 1940 Resolution to run the system of the country.

The meeting decided that to improve party performance and create awareness among people, party leaders, led by its chairman Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, would visit different districts of Sindh.

District conventions and meetings would also be held. It said the programme would start from the Khairpur district on Nov 13.

TRIBUTE: Pakistan Oppre-ssed Nations Movement general secretary Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah has said Shaukat Sindhi is a true follower of the late G. M. Syed and he had always guided Sindhis to follow him for achieving their rights.

He was speaking at a gathering at the Municipal Park here on Sunday which was organized by the Yadgar Committee of Shaukat Sindhi to pay him tribute.

He said Shaukat Sindhi had fought for rights of the youth and had created awareness among people to get their rights.

Mr Shah said Shaukat Sindhi had taught political activists politics, literature and philosophy.

Imdad Chandio, Ahmad Ali Qureshi, Maulana Azizullah Bohio, Munir Ahmad Channa, Ghulam Rasool Sehto, Maula Bux Leghari, Roshan Buriro, Habibullah Kabooro, Zulfiqar Shaikh, Mohammad Saleh Memon and others also spoke about the life and role of Shaukat Sindhi.
