RAGGING

RAGGING: After going through the admission process, university students face ragging by their seniors. Unfortunately, most of the seniors indulge in ragging just for the sake of enjoyment and to make life tough for the newcomers. This is a sadistic approach to life at large. What wrong has the newcomers committed for which they should face such obnoxious behaviour? What have the seniors done to earn the ragging right? The answer to both questions is the same: none. The administration must take appropriate action on this issue.

A.I.D.S. CASES: The results of random testing in a small town of Sindh recently showed 4,300 new cases of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), which is alarming. It is a matter of great concern as millions of people living in tough conditions without any health facilities are at risk. The authorities concerned must take strict measures to contain the spread of this disease and make Pakistan AIDS-free.

LACK OF FACILITIES: The Department of Criminology at the University of Sindh has no investigation lab, research funding and much of what it needs to be effective. We all know what difficulties teachers have to face if these facilities are not available. How can our country have a good criminal justice system in such a scenario? The government should provide funding and facilities to the department so it can produce good criminologists.

GAMING APPS: While the digital revolution has facilitated our lives enormously, it has also brought in its wake numerous evils in the shape of gaming applications on smartphones. Young people get easily addicted to these games and forget just about everything else. This is not only affecting their studies, but also keeping them away from physical activities. The whole society needs to manage this epidemic at various levels.
