Independent candidates win all general seats in Attock, Sanjwal
TAXILA: Independent candidates won all the general member seats in the cantonment board elections in Attock and Sanjwal.
According to official results, in Attock ward 1, Shah Nawaz Malik bagged 1,244 votes and defeated his opponent, PTI candidate Syed Mehdi Naqvi.
In ward 2, Shakeel Bangash won the seat by bagging 2,768 votes while his opponent Shahzad Ahmad, also an independent candidate, could bag only 1,007 votes.
In Sanjwal cantonment ward 1, Malik Aftab Rafiq bagged 600 votes against 364 votes of Ziauddin Niazi, a JI candidate.
Meanwhile, an unusual trend of turnout was witnessed in Wah and Taxila, according to the official data.
In most of the wards in Cantonment Board Wah, the turnout remained between 41 and 47 per cent.
According to the results announced by the returning officer, the highest turnout was 49.9 per cent in ward 6, comprising rural area of Wah. The constituency comprised 10 polling stations where the number of registered voters was 12,872 while 6,436 votes were polled.
The lowest turnout of 32 per cent was witnessed in ward 2 which comprised 22 polling stations. The number of registered voters in the area was 21,919 and 7,071 of them cast their votes.
Ward 1 witnessed 42 per cent turnout which comprised 14 polling stations with a total of 16,387 registered voters. As many as 7,018 votes were polled.
Ward 3 witnessed 41 per cent turnout which comprised 15 polling stations while the number of registered voters there was 19,679 and 8,144 of them were polled. Ward 4 witnessed 42 per cent turnout which consisted of 12 polling stations with the number of registered voters being 18,450 and 7,873 of them were polled.
Ward 5 registered 41 per cent turnout which comprised 15 polling stations with 19,108 registered voters where 7,954 votes were polled.
A turnout of 47 per cent was reported in ward 6 which comprised nine polling stations with the number of 7,679 registered voters. In ward 8, 33 percent turnout was recorded. The area has 17 polling stations, while in ward 9 the turnout remained 39 per cent. Moreover, 8,527 votes were polled in ward 10 which consisted of 10 polling stations.
Taxila
In the Cantonment Board of Taxila, the highest turnout of 87pc was recorded in ward 1, comprising rural areas of the garrison city where the number of polling stations was 2 and registered voters was 1,295. In ward 2, with six polling stations, 1990 of the 3,813 registered voters cast their votes.
Ward 3 witnessed 60 per cent turnout which consisted of six polling stations and has 4003 registered voters. Ward 4 recorded 57 per cent turnout and consisted of four polling stations with the total number of 3182 registered voters while in ward 5, as many as 53 per cent of the total registered voters (3,683) cast their votes.
