Police arrest seven for bank robbery in Swabi

SWABI: Police have arrested seven robbers who took away Rs6 million from a bank branch here on Friday while holding the staff at gunpoint and also recovered 90 per cent of the amount from them.

This was stated by regional police officer Yasin Farooq and DPO Mohammad Shoaib in a press conference here on Saturday.

“The arrest of the seven robbers within 12 hours of the incident and recovery of the looted amount is a big achievement,” said the RPO, adding the police from Swabi to Peshawar worked in coordination and traced the criminals.

Mr Shoaib said the police arrested the seven robbers from Darra Adamkhel, Peshawar and Kohat.

He said they were also allegedly involved in bank robberies in Karachi and other regions.

34 dengue cases detected: Dengue virus has started spreading here in the district and so far 34 cases have been confirmed by the district health department.

Officials said on Saturday that majority of the cases were reported in Takail, followed by Jehangira and Chota Lahor tehsil.

Takail village is situated in the Gadoon Amazai mountainous region and in past not a single case of dengue fever was reported from there.

“After receiving information the health department rushed its teams to Takail village,” said a doctor on condition of anonymity.

The health officials conducted fumigation in the houses of dengue patients and in the neighbourhood. They also arranged a free medical camp, conducted tests of the people and provided free medicines to them.

“The health department gave free mosquito nets to the people in Takail village,” said another official.

The local people were advised to adopt precautionary measures to check spread of dengue fever. They were asked to use mosquito nets while sleeping, cover water tanks and ensure that there was no standing water in the vicinity.

When contacted, a senior health official said the district administration had directed the district health officer to take all possible measures for provision of adequate facilities to the patients and preventing spread of dengue fever.
