Banned TLP men booked over ‘anti-state’ meeting

BAHAWALNAGAR: Police on Monday booked the city president of the banned Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and 29 others for arranging an “anti-state” meeting and violating Covid-19 protocols at Basti Chota Bairwala.

According to the FIR, on the night of Sept 25, a group of people allegedly belonging to the banned TLP arranged an “anti-state” public meeting in Union Council No 54 at the outhouse of its city president Shabbir Ahmed at Basti Chota Bairwala.

The FIR said that at least 30 people, including Shabbir Ahmed, Rab Nawaz, Kashif, Tahir and Ijaz participated in the meeting.

It said the purpose of the meeting was to allegedly make the banned organisation operational, eliminate its opponents. It also said the participants ignored the Covid SOPs.

Saddar police registered a case against the suspects under section 16 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance 1960 and 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Akhtar and started investigation.
