PESHAWAR STREETS

PESHAWAR STREETS: The Hayatabad Township in Peshawar has wonderful security, provision of amenities, utility services, school and colleges as well as government and private hospitals. For some strange reasons, garbage-collection is far from ideal. The garbage is collected through donkey-carts and that leaves much to be desired. The relevant authorities should do something about it.

HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS: The unlawful and mushroom growth of high-rise buildings in Karachi’s Bath Island area is disappointing. A bungalow on Feroze Nana Road has recently been dug up to clear the site for a high-rise structure where a Judicial Academy is said to have been planned. This road is the main artery connecting Bath Island with Clifton and Mai Kolachi, and a high-rise building will only lead to traffic jams and accidents. A multi-storied complex on a residential plot in any case is not a good idea.

NATIONAL HEROES: This refers to the news ‘Dr Abdul Qadeer disappointed with PM Imran for not inquiring after his health’ (Sept 13). This was shocking. He may be a villain for our enemies, but the reality is he is our hero. Beyond any shadow of doubt he was the mastermind behind the development of the nuclear bomb, making Pakistan impregnable. The PM can still make a goodwill gesture and win the hearts and minds of the people of Pakistan.

TOURISM CHALLENGES: There are many challenges for the tourism industry which include inadequate infrastructure, poor security situation, lack of government’s will, inefficient policies, and insufficient hotels and restaurants. Promoting and sustaining tourism is in

the best interest of Pakistan. Although there are certain hurdles in the way, they can be overcome by taking effective measures. It is hoped that these measures will be taken and implemented.
