Over 100 test Covid positive in capital, Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: While 74 people were found infected with Covid-19 in Islamabad on Sunday, the positivity rate remained at 2.11pc.

On the other hand, health authorities claimed that all possible steps were being taken to control dengue.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia said 3,510 samples were collected on Saturday of which 74 were found positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.

About the dengue cases, he said the DHO office had increased efforts to control the disease.

“We are hopeful that the cases will reduce by the end of the current month as dengue mosquito cannot survive during cold weather. Currently, we are treating stagnant water with organophosphate,” he said.

An official of the Ministry of National Health Services said most of the cases were being reported from rural areas.

“Fogging is being done at dawn and dusk in the weak areas and cases are being responded by the teams,” he said.

One patient died of Covid-19 in the district while 43 people tested positive and 54 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate in the district was recorded at 3pc in the last 24 hours. Total 1,599 samples were collected and 43 of them were found infected.

Foujan Khan, 74, a resident of Misrial Road, was brought to Rawalpindi Institute of Urology on Sept 30 where he died.

There are 585 active patients in the district - 94 in hospitals and 491 home isolated.

Officials said 15 patients arrived from cantonment areas, nine from city areas, six from Potohar Town, one patient each from Gujar Khan, Mianwali and Kotli Sattian, four from Murree and six from Taxila.

As many as 94 patients were admitted in the city hospitals, including four in Holy Family Hospital, 49 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 26 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), 14 in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH) and one patient in Bilal Hospital.

There are four patients on ventilators, 27 are on oxygen and 63 are stable.
