Galiyat uplift body gets contempt notice in chairlift case

ABBOTTABAD: The Civil Judge-I Abbottabad has issued a contempt of court notice to Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) for not complying with a stay order it had issued in the Ayubia chairlift case.

Civil judge Shahid Zaman in a contempt petition filed by Mohammad Ayaz Khan, the contractor of Ayubia chairlift, issued notices to the respondents and directed the bailiff to visit the spot and prepare a detailed report on the status quo already granted.

Earlier, the court had granted a stay in the case, but the GDA authorities stopped the chairlift operation declaring it unsafe and dangerous.

The court issued notice to the GDA director general with the direction to comply with the stay order. It fixed Oct 20 as the next date of hearing.

Meanwhile, GDA in a letter has asked the district police officer to register a case against the contractor of Ayubia chairlift, chairman and vice-chairman of the community-based social organisation, Galiyat Tahafuz Movement, Sardar Sabir and Sardar Iftikhar and a number of other notables of the area for entering the premises of Ayubia chairlift and forcibly opening the doors.

The letter also blamed the social media for defaming the development body.
