Young man shot dead in Korangi
KARACHI: A young man was shot dead in Korangi area late on Thursday night, police said on Friday.
They added that Mohammed Muneeb, 22, was sitting at a restaurant when an armed man accompanied by a woman arrived there on a motorbike, fired at him and rode away.
Muneeb suffered serious bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead.
The police said the motive for the killing could not be ascertained till late in the night.
They said that the victim’s father was a security guard at a private school in the same area.
Jobless man commits suicide in Clifton
A 36-year-old man committed suicide in Clifton on Friday, police said. They added that Nabeel Javed ended his life by shooting himself in the head in his flat located on the first floor of Ideal Apartments near Teen Talwar.
The body was shifted to the JPMC to fulfil legal formalities. Frere SHO Waqar Ahmed said the man was stated to be depressed on account of being jobless.
Suspected gangster held
Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspected gangster in Sher Shah.
Keamari SSP Fida Husain said Nasir alias Nachi was arrested in an intelligence-based raid on Baba Road. He said the suspect was linked with elements of Lyari gang warfare.
He claimed that two kilogramme of explosives was recovered from his custody.
“The held suspect was an important character of the Lyari gang war and he had established a reign of terror in the area,” the SSP said.
He said that the held suspect, along with his accomplice Sajid alias Golo, was planning a terrorism act in the city. The police registered a case against him under anti-terrorism law.
