Pakistan’s exports to Italy rise by 64pc

KARACHI: Consul-General of Italy in Karachi Danilo Giurdanella has said that Pakistan’s exports to his country had registered 64 per cent growth in August 2021.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Rotary Club of Karachi Centennial, he said Pakistan’s exports to Italy were $731 million agains total import worth $521 during 2019-20.

He said Pakistan is the leading exporter of Basmati rice in Italy and it’s share had risen to 82pc.

“Italy is also emerging as a preferred destination for students to pursue degree programmes abroad. This year, the Consulate of Italy in Karachi received around 1,300 applications from students of Sindh and Baluchistan,” he said, adding that other sectors of cooperation were archaeology, healthcare and social sector development.

He said recently Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio visited Pakistan and matters pertaining to multilateral as well as bilateral issues were discussed. He said last time an Italian FM came to Pakistan was in 2016.

Earlier, Navaid Khan gave the welcome address followed by introduction of the diplomat by Basit Mundia.
