QUETTA: United opposition in the Balochistan Assembly has urged Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani to resign or take a fresh vote of confidence from the house as, according to the opposition, he has lost majority after “resignations of nine ministers, advisers and parliamentary secretaries”.

Opposition leader Malik Sikander Khan demanded this while speaking at a press conference along with parliamentary secretary of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal Malik Naseer Ahmed Shahwani and Haji Nawaz Kakar of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl here on Saturday.

Mr Khan said that Balochistan was facing a political and constitutional crisis after acceptance of resignations of the three ministers by the governor while two advisers and four parliamentary secretaries had not withdrawn their resignations.

He said that Governor Syed Zahoor Agha should call an assembly session and ask the chief minister to take a fresh vote of confidence from the house.

The opposition leader said that in the house of 65, Mr Alyani enjoyed the support of just 24 members of the Balochistan Awami Party and coalition partners thus he had lost the moral right to continue working as chief minister any more.

“The opposition parties with angry ministers and MPAs enjoy the support of majority members,” he claimed.

“All orders Mr Alyani has issued as chief minister during the last 20 days are unconstitutional and government officials should not obey these illegal orders,” Mr Khan asserted.

He said that as chief minister Mr Alyani had not taken any decision according to the will and desires of the people during the last three years.

“This all started when the CM and his cabinet allocated development funds to non-elected people instead of spending it through elected opposition members,” he said.

Referring to recent protest by the opposition, he said that the chief minister lodged an FIR against the opposition members who remained in a police station for 13 days.

He said that after committing all these atrocities, Mr Alyani was now meeting the leaders of the opposition parties and requesting them to save his government.

He said that the opposition’s no-trust motion against the Chief Minister, on which the Governor House had pointed out a technical mistake, was still pending with the governor for a decision.
