Dengue in Lahore
I AM a resident of Sunny Park Housing Society, located near PCSIR Phase 2 and the Shaukat Khanum Hospital, which is a so-called posh area of Lahore. Despite cleanliness activities, the dengue cases are increasing in the area rather rapidly.
My father, aged 67 years, is suffering from dengue fever and is admitted to a hospital in a serious condition. To be honest, there is a dengue patient in almost every house in the vicinity. I am astonished why the government is not taking this issue seriously.
The government only focuses on seminars and paper-based activities rather than practical work. I tried to lodge a complaint at the dengue complaint cell, but received no satisfactory response. The staff is non-cooperative and does not register the complaints.
The residents of PCSIR Phase 2, Sunny Park, Nawab Town, Ali Town and the surrounding localities are at a serious risk. The health department stands nowhere as dengue wards in all nearby hospitals are nearly full. The government should make practical arrangements to control dengue cases before the situation gets out of hand.
