Traffic policeman shot dead in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: A traffic police constable was martyred here on Thursday when unidentified attackers opened fire on him in the limits of Mathra on the outskirts of the city, police said.
Constable Mohibullah is the second traffic cop to lose life in such an attack in about a week time.
A Mathra police official told Dawn that constable Mohibullah was returning to his native Chagharmati village from polio duty in Nasir Bagh area when he was targeted by unknown attackers near Yarghakhko area.
The official said the constable received three to four bullets on his head and neck. He said the police had recovered empties of 30-bore pistol from the crime scene. The official said that the attack appeared to be an incident of targeted killing as the cop had no enmity.
A senior police official said that the killing was apparently an incident of terrorism.
The funeral prayers of the martyred cop was offered at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines, which was attended by special assistant to the chief minister on information Kamran Bangash, commissioner Peshawar Riaz Khan Mehsud, city police chief Abbas Ahsan and other officials.
