Shehbaz asks govt to brief parliament on IMF deal

LAHORE: PML-N president has demanded bringing the International Monitoring Fund (IMF) conditions (in new agreement with the government) to the parliament.

“Intentional secrecy around terms of negotiations with the IMF is suggestive of ill-will. Why is the government ignoring Parliament in this matter?” the opposition leader in the National Assembly said in a tweet on Monday.

He asked the PTI government to tell the people if the agreement did not end with the IMF then what conditions were attached to it. “The constant devaluation of the rupee shows that the government is doing it at the behest of the IMF conditions,” he said.

Shehbaz further said the constant appreciation in the value of dollar against the rupee meant a free-fall for the economy and more misery for our people.

“Appreciation of dollar against rupee is an indication of destruction of the economy. The country’s economy is already in tatters and unbridled price hike and inflation have made the lives of the common man miserable,” he said and added this government was inept and incompetent and its economic policies were reflective of this.

Meanwhile, PML-N Punjab information secretary Azma Bokhari said that Punjab was being run by four chief ministers — Usman Buzdar, Imran Khan, Chaudhry Sarwar and Parvez Elahi.

In a statement on Monday Ms Bokhari said Mr Buzdar was more interested in obliging his relatives and frontmen as he failed to work for the welfare of the people of the province.

“In the chief minister’s office decisions related to Buzdar and Imran’s home towns, Taunsa and Mianwali, are taken. Buzdar should declare the CM House a house of Taunsa. The annual development budget for Taunsa and Mianwali was spent in the first six months.”

She further said Buzdar had put a break on the development work in Punjab which was left off by Shehbaz Sharif.
