Women training centre in Lachi gets funds

PESHAWAR: The MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company, in partnership with Joint Venture Consortium of Tal Block, has provided Rs2.5 million funds to Technical Vocational Training Centre for Women in Lachi.

A ceremony was held at the centre wherein Kohat Deputy Commissioner Roshan Mehsud and District Social Welfare Officer Hussain Khattak received the social welfare fund provided by MOL Pakistan, says a statement issued here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Roshan Mehsud thanked Ali Murtaza Abbas of MOL for initiating the centre back in December 2019. He acknowledged MOL’s ongoing support to the social welfare programme of Kohat district.

Ali Murtaza Abbas, the regional vice-president of MOL for Middle East, Africa and Pakistan said that MOL was a responsible corporate entity that always supported sustainable development efforts in Pakistan through its social welfare funding and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

“In particular, we firmly believe that empowerment of women brings positive change to our local communities residing in our areas of operation,” he said.

Mr Abbas said that by providing technical vocational training to women, the firm was helping them to develop the means to financially support themselves and their families. “As such, we do our best to support the local government in its efforts to empower women,” he added.

It merits a mention here that a total of 100 students are currently enrolled in sewing, beautician and computer programmes at the centre and each student receives a monthly stipend of Rs1,000.

The local elders and the community members appreciated this initiative by MOL and ensured every possible support for development of the area.
