Blind man shot dead in Korangi
KARACHI: A blind man was shot dead in a Korangi area, police said on Monday.
Area SHO Saleem Shahzad said that Shamsuddin, 55, was killed at Ghareeb Nawaz Chowk in Korangi No 2 ½. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
He said that the victim had lost his eyesight. He originally hailed from Bangladesh and had no family here. He was selling sugar cane juice and there were rumours that certain elements were eying his business.
The SHO said that the assailants did not take away his cell phone and cash.
Meanwhile, Rangers and police jointly carried out an intelligence-based raid in Orangi Town and arrested suspect Umair Ahmed alias Major Umair for his alleged involvement in the recent killing of a senior official of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
A Rangers spokesperson said that the bullet-riddled body of KMC official Misbahul Islam was found on an empty plot in Hawa Goth on Oct 25. The Rangers set up a special team and picked up the suspect, who confessed to have killed the KMC official over some personal enmity.
