157 more dengue patients land in hospitals of twin cities

ISLAMABAD: As many as 157 new cases of dengue fever were reported in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Islamabad District Health Officer Dr Zaeem Zia said out of the total 94 cases, 56 were reported from rural areas and 38 from urban areas.

He said 25 patients were admitted to Federal General Hospital followed by 14 to Holy Family Hospital, eight to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), four to Benazir Bhutto Hospital and one to Polyclinic while the remaining 43 are in different private hospitals, he added.

The DHO said 19 cases were reported from Tarlai, followed by 10 from Alipur, seven from Tarnol, six from Bhara Kahu, five from Sohan, three each from Koral and Chirrah, and one each from Sihala, Rawat and Jhang Syedan.

The tally of fever cases in the capital reached 3,737, Dr Zia said, adding out of the total 2,140 were reported from rural areas and 1,597 from urban areas.

During the last 24 hours, 784 residual spray and 98 fogging activities were conducted in different areas of the capital to prevent fever spread and eliminate potential breeding sites of larvae, he said, said, adding separate teams of the District Health Office found 964 potential breeding sites and eliminated them.

Separate teams of the health office visited 2,405 houses in different union councils and 10 among them were found positive with stagnant water, the DHO said, adding the teams also found 860 open containers and two among them were positive with larvae.

Assistant Commissioner Secretariat Aneel Saeed conducted inspections in Bhara Kahu.Rawalpindi The district health authority said 63 people in the garrison city contracted dengue virus, taking the tally to 2,710.

According to data, 53 new patients arrived at Holy Family Hospital, five each at Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital.

According to the official, five of the new cases are in a critical condition.

The authority said 2,710 dengue patients reported in three government hospitals so far including 223 patients admitted to three hospitals including 140 to Holy Family Hospital, 18 to Benazir Bhutto Hospital and 65 in District Headquarters Hospital.

“Total 2,607 patients recovered in the garrison city and discharged from the hospitals till Nov 2 including 1,563 from Holy Family Hospital, 685 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and 359 in District Headquarters Hospital,” he said.
