Suspect killed in Surjani ‘encounter’

KARACHI: A suspected bandit was killed in an alleged encounter with police in Surjani Town on Tuesday, officials said.

They said that acting on a tip-off a police patrol moved to Gohram Goth where they found two men on a motorbike fleeing after snatching cash and valuables from passers-by.

“The police chased the armed riders and finally trapped them near a famous eatery in the area,” said an official. “Finding themselves trapped, they fired shots at the police. The police retaliated and one of the bandits was hit, who died. His aide managed to speed away.”

The body of the suspect was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, a young man shot dead his 53-year-old father-in-law and wounded the victim’s younger brother in Korangi, police said.

The area police said that Dildar Hussain and his younger brother Dhani Bux were talking to their son-in-law Abdul Razzaq over some family dispute when he fired at them after heated arguments and fled.

Hussain died on the spot while his brother was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
