Man shot dead, two hurt in Shershah attack

KARACHI: A man was shot dead and two others were wounded in Shershah on Saturday, police said.

They added that armed men opened indiscriminate firing on people sitting near Bin Hashim Masjid located on Street-6 at Paracha Chowk. As a result, Wilayat Khan, 30, was killed and Mehrab Din and Mohammed Khan suffered injuries.

The dead and injured were shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

Area SHO Chaudhry Shahid said that Wilayat was the real target as he had some personal enmity with someone in his hometown of Bajaur Agency.

He said that the condition of the injured men was out of danger.

Two held for assaulting girl

The Surjani Town police on Saturday arrested two men for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

The girl was allegedly subjected to a criminal assault in Taiser Town two days ago.

SSP-West Suhai Aziz said the girl’s mother had approached the police and her medical examination was carried out, which did not reveal rape in the preliminary report. However, a case was registered and the police decided for a fresh medical examination.

Family of slain girl assured of justice

Karachi police chief Additional Inspector General Imran Yaqoob Minhas visited the residence of a six-year old girl killed two days ago in the celebratory gunfire in Qayyumabad. A police constable had been arrested for carrying out the firing that killed the girl.

Addl. IG Minhas offered his condolence with the girl’s father, grandfather and also met with area residents.

“During the meeting, the victim’s father expressed his satisfaction over investigation carried out by the police,” said a police spokesperson. “The Defence police immediately registered a murder case and arrested four suspects including a policeman.”

The city police chief assured the heirs of justice and exemplary punishment to the people involved.
