Solar lights in Kohat need urgent repair

KOHAT: The posh KDA Town and main roads and streets of the city plunge into darkness after evening due to around 180 damaged solar lights, exposing the residents to attacks by stray dogs and wild boars.

The repair of these lights has been delayed by the tehsil municipal administration for the last many months.

A survey conducted by this correspondent showed that 114 solar lights were damaged and dysfunctional in the area from Hangu railway crossing to Kutcheri Chowk.

Similarly, 47 lights were not working in the area from the DC office to Mohammad Nagar Chowk.

Repair of lights delayed for last many months

All solar lights in residential areas of thick jungle, Jarwanda, government high school for boys No 1, Garhi Jaats, and mohallahs were also not in working condition.

The tehsil municipal officer, deputy commissioner and lawmakers have been keeping a mum over the issue.

The residents have demanded early repair of the lights for safe movement during the night, especially in the areas infested with wild boars.

Former sub-divisional officer of communication and works department, Nadeem Paracha, said he had rented a house in KDA.

He said as there was no market in the sector 5 he went to the main road for shopping in the night and was bit by a stray dog.

Similarly, herds of wild boars come out after evening and the people could not go outside.

SEWING MACHINES DISTRIBUTED: The social welfare department and Karwan-e-Amal NGO distributed sewing machines among the position holders and certificates among the members of first batch on the completion of their three-month training course here on Saturday.

Social welfare officer Hussain Khattak also handed over dowry to a girl who had no father or brother, but a sick mother and had appealed for it a week ago.

In this regard, a simple ceremony was held by Mr Khattak and chairman of Karwan-e-Amal at the sewing centre.

The awards were given by Syed Sheziam Shah.

The first, second and third position holders were given sewing machines by Malik Iqbal.
