Verification drive for electoral rolls launched

TAXILA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) launched a door-to-door verification campaign with regards to electoral rolls prepared by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) in Attock on Sunday.

District Election Commissioner Umer Khattab told mediapersons that registration powers had been assigned to 32 ECP officials, out of whom eight were in Attock tehsil, five in Hazro, three in Hassanabdal, five in Fatehjang, five in Pindigheb and six in Jand.

Mr Khattab said 162 supervisors and 740 other officials had been deputed to support them, adding that preliminary draft of the electoral rolls would be displayed at designated centres.

“Public can avail the opportunity to register complaints regarding corrections in the list and transfer their votes to a permanent or temporary address mentioned in their computerised national identity cards (CNICs),” the district election commissioner said.

He said the second phase of verification would begin on Jan 26 and continue till March 11, adding that the new electoral rolls would be available at the display centres for 45 days while the final voters’ lists would be published by the ECP on March 13, 2022 once they had been reviewed by citizens in their respective constituencies.

He said voters could add their names to the list and remove details of deceased voters as well as those who had shifted elsewhere.

“The review officers would decide about the authenticity of the objections in their respective areas, Mr Khattab said, adding that voters could check their registration status on lists by sending an SMS with their identity number to 8300.
