No salary for Covid workers for six months

FAISALABAD: Corona ward employees of the Allied Hospital have been serving without salary for the last six months.

The issue surfaced when the employees of the ward complained to Punjab Specialized Secretary Health Punjab Ahmed Javed Qazi who visited the hospital and the Covid-19 ward on Friday.

The Punjab government set up a special ward for the treatment of coronavirus patients and deployed special employees there to tackle the situation round the clock.

The employees told the secretary that they had been serving the ward without any salary for six months and the hospital officials were well aware of the situation.

An official of the hospital said it was wrong that the administration had done nothing about the issue of their salaries.

He said the issue was taken up with the Punjab government multiple times and now the secretary had promised release of the salaries.

The secretary also found the head of a department absent from duty. He also talked to the patients and their attendants who complained about the hospital administration’s indifferent attitude towards them and the secretary asked the medical superintendent of the Allied Hospital to mend his ways and improve the situation immediately.

He asked the MS that no patient should complain about the non-availability of medicines at the hospital.

The secretary also visited the Children Hospital on Jhang Road and expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the hospital staff.
