Gas outages hit Kohat
KOHAT: The consumers on Wednesday complained about gas outages and low pressure.
Talking to reporters, they said the most-affected areas were densely-populated Chakar Kot, Abdullah Colony, Jarwanda, City, Bangashabad and Jarma. They said the people had to buy LPG cylinders for cooking and heating purposes as gas supply was often suspended throughout the day.
Rehmat Elahi of Abdullah Colony said gas outages had forced him to buy two cylinders of 16kg at payment of Rs12,000 each to get through the winter months.
Faisal of Jarwanda area regretted that the government had announced to start gas load management from December, but Kohat residents were experiencing outages even in November.
He said during the day the pressure was so low that only the pilot of geyser burnt, while stoves did not burn at all.
PROPAGANDA AGAINST VACCINE: Deputy commissioner Roshan Mehsud on Wednesday directed the officials to tell people not to pay heed to elements spreading propaganda against vaccination of children against measles, rubella and polio.
Speaking at a meeting, he said the vaccines were 100 per cent safe and had no side effects. He said all the stakeholders should make the campaign successful for a healthy future generation.
He asked the vaccinators to leave no stone unturned in achieving the target of vaccinating 458,000 children against measles and rubella and another 184,000 children against polio.
WOMEN RIGHTS: The members of the district committee of the Commission on Status of Women have appealed to the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Justice Qaiser Rasheed to strengthen the justice system in the merged areas by setting up special courts to end the menace of gender-based violence.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the committee members -- Ms Nabeela and Esar Ali Bangash -- said quota should be reserved for women in judicial appointments. They said there should be zero tolerance for domestic violence against women.
They also asked for treating the women’s cases on a priority so that justice was served.
