Snoopy on Nasa’s space mission
A new rocket designed to launch humans to the moon, Mars and beyond, will launch next year from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. On board the Artemis I unmanned mission will be a familiar fuzzy figure — Snoopy.
A five-ounce plush toy version of the daydreaming beagle will wear a special space suit too. Stuffed animals on flights are used because when they start to float, indicating that the spacecraft has entered space’s zero gravity. Being soft and light, they don’t break anything or accidentally strike a button.
The Artemis I mission is scheduled to circle the moon and then return to Earth in February as a dry run without astronauts, making sure all systems are working for future crewed missions. Also aboard will be two Lego figurines, part of an educational series.
The mission announcement coincides with the release of the second season of Snoopy in Space, the Emmy-nominated animated series on Apple TV+.
Sneakerella, a new take on Cinderella
Disney is giving the fairy-tale of Cinderella a refresh with an original movie on Disney+ titled Sneakerella.
In the movie, instead of trying to sneak into an exclusive ball, our protagonist El (Chosen Jacobs) is attempting to get into a sneaker convention to show off some of his original works of art. Sneakerella premieres on Disney+ February 18, 2022.
In this modern reimagination of the Cinderella fairy tale, El is shown as an aspiring sneaker designer from Queens who works in the shoe store that once belonged to his late mother. El hides his artistic talent from his stressed-out stepfather and two mean-spirited stepbrothers. When he meets Kira King, the fiercely independent daughter of legendary basketball star and sneaker tycoon Darius King, sparks fly as the two bond over their mutual affinity for sneakers.
The film’s first poster features a colourful, rainbow-filled sneaker being lifted high into the air.
