KARACHI: Rauf calls for helmet campaign
KARACHI, Nov 18: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi has directed DIG Traffic Falak Khurshid to ensure helmet wearing by motorcyclists and said his orders in this regard be implemented with all strictness.
Talking to newsmen at Sindh Assembly on Friday, he said that wearing of helmet was in the interest of motorcyclists themselves because they suffer minimum hurt in case of an accident. He said that in accidents most deaths occurred because of head injuries.
Rauf Siddiqi said the motorcyclists should compulsorily wear helmet so that not only law was abided but minimum hurt was caused if they met any accident. He directed the traffic police officers to be courteous with people during checking of helmets so that motorcyclists and their families may not have a feeling of humiliation.
Referring to the province-wide campaign against fake Aamils and magicians, the minister said that it was continuing with full vigour and more of them had been arrested from Karachi and Hyderabad.
He directed that those deceiving the people and extracting money by hoodwinking them should not be spared at any cost. He stated this in a meeting with DIG Special Branch Wajid Ali Durrani, who was heading the campaign against fake spiritual healers.
The DIG informed the home minister that more Aamils and Jadoogars had been arrested from Quaidabad, Landhi, Latifabad “A-Section” and Bin Qasim areas.
He said those arrested during the last few days included Pir Ranjha alias Contractor, son of Fakir Mohammed from Sherpao Colony, Quaidabad, Landhi Town; Abdul Jabbar alias “Maqsood Baab”, son of Abdul Qayyum, and Noor Alam, son of Abdul Hameed, from Sharif Colony, Landhi Town; Ishrat Ali alias Bengali, son of Syed Tahir Ali, Latifabad Unit-5 Hyderabad and Hashim, son of Mohammed Illyas were arrested from Ibrahim Hyderi, Bin Qasim Town.
He said that FIRs against all of them had been registered at respective police stations.
The home minister directed the DIG that this campaign should continue unabated as they were the elements who had ruined the society and force the people with weak belief to work against Islamic tenets.—APP
