HIGHWAY HARRASMENT

HIGHWAY HARRASMENT: This refers to the report “SC deplores ‘harassment’ on highways” (Nov 14). The security personnel at Hub routinely inspect all vehicles coming from Balochistan. While the security of the citizens is of paramount importance given the precarious situation owing to changing regional dynamics, the need cannot be allowed to override the dignity of the citizens. People travelling daily from Hub to Karachi often have grievances related to the behaviour of the security staff. I was unsure about such occurrences until it happened to me. It was bad. It really was bad.

PRAYER CALLS: There are endless calls to prayer from mosques for every prayer. These endless calls for prayer is confusing for many. People have now started offering prayers by following the time given for prayers in newspapers or on various Islamic websites instead of waiting for the azaan. There should be uniform calls for prayer for each prayer. I hope the relevant authorities will take due measures with understanding and consensus.

CONSUMER PROTECTION: I recently tried to lodge a complaint with the Directorate of Consumer Protection Council against a private entity, and, to my surprise, I had to attach the photocopy of a legal notice on the website along with my complaint. I want to suggest that the directorate should send the legal notice instead of the consumer. Not every citizen can hire a lawyer to send a notice.

COST OF RECOVERY: Many face threats and harassment when they fail to pay their bank instalments on time. Are the recovery teams allowed to do that? There should be some regulations to protect the consumer and their families. The banks have all the information of the customers, and they should not pass it on to strangers for recovery purposes. The relevant authorities must take notice of the matter.
