Kohat people block road against gas outages

KOHAT: Hundreds of gas consumers of the Kohat city on Friday blocked the Hangu highway against gas outages.

The residents of Garhi Mondan, Kal Sadi, Khairabad and Rauf Khan areas gathered on the road and chanted slogans against the lawmakers and the SNGPL authorities for making false promises of ensuring smooth gas supply in winter. They said they were forced to come onto the roads because with the start of December gas supply had been stopped to their areas.

The protesters opened the road to traffic after the district administration and SNGPL officials assured them of ensuring smooth gas supply.

Meanwhile, vehicular traffic was suspended between Kohat and Peshawar after an oil tanker overturned on a hilly road on Friday. The tanker met the accident while negotiating a sharp turn on the steep track. However, traffic could not be restored till filing of this report at 7pm.

In a separate development, Pesco sub-divisional officer rural Farooq Shah assured on Friday a delegation of United Ulema Council and Junglekhel welfare organisation of smooth electricity supply during Friday prayers and at night.

The delegation demanded putting their areas on the KDA grid station instead of the Rawalpindi Road grid station. The SDO assured them to connect their areas to the KDA grid station.
