Cold wave to persist in city

KARACHI: The cold wave currently gripping the city may continue till Jan 16-17, more or less with the same intensity, a Met official said.

Temperature dropped to 11 degrees Celsius on Saturday with 88 per cent relative humidity whereas the maximum temperature recorded was 22.5°C with 36pc relative humidity.

“The cold wave is likely to continue till it is replaced by a stronger westerly wave,” said Dr Sardar Sarfaraz of the Met department.

He added that 5.6°C was recorded last year as city’s lowest temperature of the month of January in a decade.

The lowest ever was zero degrees Celsius recorded on Jan 21 in 1934.

The department has forecast fair weather with cool night for the next two days with minimum temperature ranging from 9°C to 11°C.

A Met advisory said that weather in remaining districts of the province would remain dry and cold on Sunday with chances of extreme fog in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, etc.
