Bars elect office-bearers in Punjab: Three lawyers among seven held in Faisalabad for aerial firing

TOBA TEK SINGH: Polling for the district and tehsil bar associations in Punjab remained largely peaceful with the exception of Faisalabad where police arrested seven people for resorting to jubilation firing on Saturday.

The Faisalabad district police spokesperson said that an agreement was reached between bar election board members, former office-bearers and senior lawyers in the presence of the district and sessions judge and CPO Ghulam Mubashar Maiken that bringing arms into bar room had been prohibited.

He said the SSP operations and the SP Lyallpur division took immediate action and had seven people arrested.

Sources said three of those held were lawyers and four clerks and arms had been recovered.

Faisalabad DBA elected office-bearers are: Bilal Ashraf Basra (president), Sarwar Butt (vice president), Yasir Hayat (secretary), Ali Haider Sherazi (joint secretary), Ghulam Rabbani (librarian) and Ms Mahjabeen secretary finance.

Ittehad group defeated Allied group in the election of Gojra tehsil bar association. Riaz Ahmad Baryar and Shoaib Kassana were elected president and secretary. Other office-bearers are Sheikh Ijaz Mahmood (vice president), Bilal Ramday (finance secretary), Rana Muhammad Ikram (librarian) and Afzal Nizami (auditor).

At Pirmahal, Talib Jaffri has been elected president, Iqbal Hamjana (vice president), Zaman Nohana (secretary), Imtisal Chaudhry (joint secretary) and Farhan Noor (secretary finance).

Yasin Darsana was elected Kamalia TBA president, Rana Shahid vice president, Abdul Rehman Dogar secretary, Zia Kamboh secretary finance and Jalil Abbas joint secretary.

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Basharat Ali Hundal of Democratic Wokala Alliance (DWA) was elected president of the District Bar Association (DBA) by securing 391 votes against Jam Abdul Majeed Laar of Wokala Greater Alliance (WGA) who bagged 362 votes.

Malik Ijaz Ahmed Bohar of DWA was elected general secretary whereas the election for the slot of joint secretary was stopped because the nomination papers of DWA candidate were challenged by WGA candidate.

KASUR: All the four tehsils of Kasur announced the unofficial results of bar elections for 2022-23.

The slot of president in District Bar Association had already been decided before the polls. Mehar Muhammad Saleem and Mirza Naseemul Hassan, with the intervention of Punjab Bar Council, would be the presidents for a tenure of six months each.

Mehar Hafiz Ali Shan won the slot of secretary general by obtaining 906 votes against former secretary general Mehar Muhammad Imran who bagged 648 votes.

At Kot Radha Kishan, Syed Zaheerul Hassan carried the day to become president of tehsil bar by getting 185 votes against his rival Chaudhry Muhammad Tariq who secured 101 votes.

Sardar Waqas Tahir was elected secretary general with 195 votes against his rival candidate Shahid Iqbal who obtained 91 votes.

According to unofficial results of the Chunian bar, Mian Naseem Ahmed was elected president of the tehsil bar after he got 287 votes against his rival candidate Rana Iqbal Maraka who secured 266 votes. Similarly, Naeem Riaz was elected general secretary as he secured 280 votes whereas his rival candidate Abdul Ghaffar obtained 213 votes.

At Pattoki, Azeem Anwar won the president slot of the tehsil bar election by securing 334 votes whereas his opponent candidate Shahzad Imtiaz Hussain could get 247 votes. Malik Abdul Jabbar became secretary general as he got 341 votes whereas his rival Nadeem Ashraf secured 232 votes.

MIANWALI: Sheikh Mohammad Hanif and Amanullah Khan groups with an alliance of Jinnah Group were elected with a thumping majority. Sattar Khan Raasha and Haji Mohammad Munir Saeed were elected president and general secretary respectively.

The other elected office-bearers are: Ahmed Sher vice president, Farooq Khan joint secretary, Syed Hussain Haider Zaidi finance secretary, and Malik Khizar Abbas Uttra librarian.

MULTAN: Waseem Khan Babar was elected president of the DBA. He secured 1,394 votes while his opponents Waheed Raza Bokhari and Chaudhry Jahanzeb obtained 1,004 and 171 votes respectively.

Rashid Mustafa Sheikh was elected vice president with 1,032 votes. Chaudhry Arshad Sabir Meo notched the slot of secretary getting 1,404 votes against his rival Shahid Mahmood Chawan who got 1,016 votes. Zeeshan Nazar Bhatti was elected finance secretary.

MUZAFFARGARH: Junaid Farooq Vijdani was elected District Bar Association president with 384 votes while his opponent Saeed Ahmed got 324 votes. Moeenuddin Joya was elected general secretary.

SAHIWAL: Imran Nabi Meelo, Abid Husain and Maher Ali Raza were elected as president, vice president and general secretary of the district bar by securing 729, 839 and 478 votes, respectively, whereas candidates for other seats were elected unopposed.

OKARA: Amjad Pervaiz Ch was elected as president by a thin margin of seven votes against his rival Rao Abid Mushtaq. Sayyed Ali Iqbal was elected as SVP, Khadim Hussain Qureshi as VP and Mahar Zamir Haider Mangan as general secretary.
