Skardu quake victims get relief items
GILGIT: Relief items were distributed among the earthquake-affected people in Roundu area of Skardu district on Wednesday.
Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon along with tourism minister Raja Nasir Ali Khan, Pakistan Baitul Mal Managing Director Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokhar, Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s GB chapter chairman Brig retired Saleem Mahmood, Skardu deputy commissioner Karimdad Chughtai and other officials visited the earthquake-hit villages and met with the residents.
On the occasion, Brig Saleem Mahmood distributed relief packages to 100 affected families. Each package consisted of 14 corrugated galvanised iron sheets, a toolkit, a kitchen set, fireplaces, solar lamps, six blankets and other items.
The PBM managing director distributed compensation cheques among the affected people.
Addressing the quake-affected people, Governor Raja Maqpoon said the GB government was taking steps to rehabilitate the quake victims.
Tourism minister Raja Nasir Ali said the regional government would not leave the quake victims alone, adding relief activities were being carried out on emergency basis.
Mr Khokhar said Prime Minister Imran Khan had issued directives for immediate rehabilitation of the affected people.
