Afghan refugee shot dead in Swabi

SWABI: Unidentified assailants shot dead an Afghan refugee here on Monday, the police said.

They said two gunmen targeted the Afghan, Hazrat Rehman, a resident of the Gandaf Afghan refugee camp in Topi tehsil, when was standing at a bus stop on the Topi-Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate Road.

The deceased succumbed to injuries while being taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital.

The police registered an FIR against unidentified assailants.

Meanwhile, doctors and paramedics of the District Headquarters Hospital, Swabi, held a token strike after a doctor’s car was stolen by unidentified auto thieves from the health facility’s premises on Monday.

The protesters said Dr Adeel Khan had parked his car near his office, but when he came out of his office after a few hours he found his vehicle missing. The doctors asked the police to trace the car-lifters and recover the vehicle from them.

Meanwhile, computer system at the OPD of Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor, developed a fault, disrupting patient care for hours on Monday as the staff failed to issue consultation slips to patients. Later, the fault was removed.

POWER TRANSFORMER STOLEN: Unidentified thieves on Monday stole parts of a power transformer from Zakarya Dheri village of Chota Lahor tehsil, the locals said.

They said thieves brought down the 50KV transformer in the wee hours on Monday, collected oil and coils and left the empty drum on the ground.

The villagers said they came to know about the incident early in the morning when they spotted the transformer parts spread on the ground.

Peshawar Electric Supply Company officials told Dawn on contact that they would get an FIR registered with the unknown thieves with the Chota Lahor city police station.

OFFICE-BEARERS ELECTED: Malgary Doctoran, a lawyers’ wing of the Awami National, on Monday nominated Tayyab Zaman Advocate and Umar Farooq Advocate as the district president and general secretary of the body.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the forum’s district organising committee, which also nominated other office-bearers.
