Wonder Craft: Flying butterfly
We have been introducing you with crafts that are usually meant for the grown up kids, but this one will surely make the little kids of the family glad, for they can fly this cute paper butterfly around the house.
The craft is easy, but still needs to be made by or with the help of older kids or older family members.
Things you need:
One square-shaped coloured paper (at least 6 inches wide and 6 inches long)
One glitter paper or you can use the patterned one
Pencil
Double tape
Scotch tape
Barbecue skewer
A drinking straw
Scissors
Directions:
Paste the glitter or patterned paper on the coloured paper, then, two fold it, picture 2.
With the help from an elder, draw the basic shape of a butterfly, picture 3.
Cut the butterfly out from the paper carefully, be more careful while cutting out butterfly’s feelers, see pictures 4 and 5.
The butterfly I made had the coloured paper on its outside while the glittered one inside, so cut one inch from the double tape and paste on the inside of the butterfly’s body, see picture 6.
Poke a tiny hole with a sharpened tip of the barbecue skewer in the centre of butterfly’s body, leave the skewer half inch up in the middle and fold the butterfly wings, see picture 7.
After you have inserted the skewer, take the drinking straw and make one-inch slit from any one side, picture 8.
Slide the straw over the skewer, and pull it up towards the wings and tape the slit part of the straw on each wing, pictures 9 and 10.
The idea is, hold the skewer and pull the straw downwards, the butterfly will open its wings, push the straw upwards, the butterfly will close its wings … believe it or not, it looks amazing!
So kids, make this easy butterfly and fly it around your house!
