Girl killed by father, brother over ‘honour’

OKARA: A man along with his son and some relatives shot his daughter dead for honour in Tariqabad locality near Bangla Gogera.

As per first information report (FIR) registered on the complaint of ASI Saeey Khan Wattoo, Ali Hasnain told the police that his father Yaqoob, brother Ali Sher and some relatives killed his sister Shakila on suspicion of loose morals on Jan 18 and buried her.

Police have recovered the body on the indication of Hasnain and registered a case under sections 302, 201, 311, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

SEMINAR: The University of Okara’s (UO) department of fisheries & aquaculture (F&A) organised on Wednesday a seminar on the ‘Latest trends of research on fisheries,’ says a release.

In his opening note, F&A in-charge Dr Sjjad Sarwar said research in fisheries is largely of an applied nature aimed at solving practical problems of fish production and increasing productivity. “We want to engage our students in practical work so that they provide viable solutions to the fisheries industry on the basis of their research.”

Nida Ismat, lecturer, said: “Scientists are required to participate in productive labour with fish farmers and other workers so that they will learn at first hand the problems faced in production in the field and share experiences with the ordinary worker. We are preparing our students to serve this purpose.”

Dr Mudassar Shahzad, assistant professor University of Education (UoE), Lahore, Dr Anser Mahmood Chatha, director research & training at Punjab Fisheries Department and Dr Khalid Abbas, associate professor University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and Dr Muhammad Wajid, chairman faculty of life sciences, also addressed.

An awareness walk was also held on the campus after the seminar.
