Two children killed as landslide hits Shangla house
SHANGLA: Two children were killed and three women injured when a massive landslide hit a house in Kuz area of Alpuri tehsil here on Friday afternoon.
Deputy commissioner Ziaur Rehman told Dawn that a massive landslide hit the house of Khurshid Khan burying alive eight persons. He said rescuers retrieved five persons – two children and three women -- and shifted them to the District Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri. However, two children identified as four-month-old Zuaira and three-year-old Maya Bibi succumbed to their injuries. Condition of the injured women was critical, he added.
DC Ziaur Rehman said rescuers were making efforts to recover the remaining three persons buried under the debris, including 55-year-old Khurshid Khan, four-year-old Raheel and three-year old Mahnoor.
The local residents said the landslide also blocked the Bisham-Swat Road for traffic.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Rasool Khan also confirmed that eight family members were buried under the rubble when the boulders hit the house. He said efforts were underway to retrieve the three persons still buried under the debris.
