Man wanted in suicide case of Sindh medical student held in Swabi

SWABI: The police arrested here the main accused in the blackmailing and suicide case of an MBBS student in Dadu district of Sindh province.

District police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan told Dawn that Shaman Solangi was apprehended on Saturday evening when he was travelling in a car in Shewa Adda area of Razaar tehsil.

He said the Swabi police had deputed plain clothed policemen at different locations for arrest of the accused. He said the accused would be handed over to the Sindgh police after completion of legal requirements.

Police sources said Mr Solangi was arrested by a Sindh police party assisted by the local police personnel when he along with a friend reached Shewa Adda in Razaar. He was later taken to the Kalu Khan police station.

Officials said Mr Solangi was the main accused in the case related to blackmailing of Asmat Rajput, a student of Peoples University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women, Nawabshah, which forced her to commit suicide on Jan 8.

TWO KILLED: Two people were killed when rival families clashed over a domestic dispute on Sunday, the police said.

A complainant, Mohammed Altaf from Gungaro village of Mardan, told the police that his brother, Mohammad Farooq, 46, was buying fruit from a shop in Doubian village, when Iqbal Khan, Sabzal Khan and Munsif Khan appeared there, and opened fire on him after arguments, killing him on the spot.

However, Qamar Ali, a brother of Sabaz Ali, who was also killed in the incident, told the police that the deceased had gone to a local market for purchasing commodities when he was attacked by Mohammad Farooq, Sajjad Khan, Hassan Khan and Habibul Nabi.

Sabaz Ali died at the Yar Hussain Civil Hospital, the police said. Both the families got registered cross FIRs with the Yar Hussain police.
